Lewis Kemper has been photographing the natural beauty of North America, and it's park lands for over 27 years. His work has been exhibited and published in magazines, books, and calendars. He has been named to Canon USA’s elite group of photographers: The Explorers of Light. Lewis teaches photography for many organizations. He is the author of The Yosemite Photographer's Handbook, and The Yellowstone Photographer's Handbook.

"Passionate Obsession"

I founded Photography As Creative Expression (Ph.A.C.E.) with Sergio Saenz. I print no work that does not reflect the passion I feel for it…I have learned, as have those unfortunates who love me, that there is toll for passionate obsession, but as we photographers know, there is sometimes a reward: The image.

"From Yet Another Angle"

I love to dig in close to everyday objects and produce abstract images, focusing on intense color, light, transparency/translucency, which I use to sometimes layer objects in combination with glass or other materials.

Photography has the power of realism. I take this realism, add a little doubt, and create fantasy. We experience the physical world and sense something unseen beyond this reality. My joy is to create images reflecting a sense of reality along with a glimpse of the dreamworld beyond. I play in that narrow zone which has elements of reality, and then something beyond our common visual reality. I get a thrill from beautiful colors, gradations, juxtapositions, compositions, and textures. I see these elements and desire to capture and share them.

Jim Dunn

Jim Dunn served as the photographic and lab assistant to the legendary Jackson Stephens. In addition to terrestrial photography, he developed camera and photographic telemetry systems for various spacecraft, including the Voyager and Space Shuttle. In 1998, Jim began making photographs of birds. He has been published in numerous Nature Conservancy publications, domestic and international field guides, and is currently working on a portfolio of images for the University of California’s Natural Reserve System.
